You can get a clean scan by just scanning it first, then playing with the Levels a little until the black looks good and the white looks as white as it's gonna get, then manually erase all the smudges and stuff you don't want.

That's about the only way to get a clean scan that I know of. :P Any good scanner will be able to pick up small smudges and things easily, because if it didn't, then it wouldn't scan the lineart properly either.

Lovely pencil drawing though. She's beautiful. <3

I have plenty tips on sketch-to-lineart tutorials:

Using pentool:

Using levels:
http://gem2niki.deviantart.com/art/L...orial-28062961 (click download)
http://dovsherman.deviantart.com/art...oshop-26579569 (click download) It contains a big section on cleaning and using the original lines.
http://pandabaka.deviantart.com/art/...-ink-171573028 And one awesome one by pandabaka! One of the best manga artists on DA.

Thanks Verene. Sorry if it looks too messy. >_<

@Perynne - true..so I guess my scanner is too good then? lol

@Gemini - Thanks for the links. I am gonna check them out later. I do have a Photoshop action I use to clean up lineart. I tried it with my sketch this morning and it didn't really help. THe problem I think is because the sketch was too grainy on paper in the first place.

I tried pen tool before and though I love the clean/smooth lines..I couldn't pull it off properly. Maybe because I prefer freehand looking lines/strokes.

I do like it though for stylized drawing but that's not what I am aiming for in my story

You can use the "file/import/WIA Support" to edit how your scan is scanning the picture. If you can't make use of the program that should be belonging to the scanner.

If you tweak it nicely enough in photoshop, anything can work!
This pic:

Is originally photographed lineart that I made into digital lineart only by manipulating the lines. If you look closely you can see that the lines at the bottom are slightly out of focus.

Nice! Hmm maybe I'll try those techniques. Thanks Gemini!

Random Freebie #2 (to those guinea pig wannabes lol)

I want to draw an action pose but I am out of ideas. So send me a screenshot of your character and the action pose you want them to be in. I just want to practice not being overwhelmed by details and focus on movement so if you submit a detailed armor/weapon, I might try to simplify it a little. I get the urge to draw when I am away from my tablet all the time and thought I'd make good use of that and try to practice something different.

I wont pick the first one but the one that seems interesting to me. I'll let you know once I have my pick.

Note: Traditional sketch, so might be messy. Not gonna use any reference so it might look a little awkward. I'll try my best though ^^.

Hey. If you want , you can draw my ele, Body Face + Hair in this action pose 0:22-0:23 and if you want you can give him a fire aura, also he wears black katana on his back. (Yeah I'm Dragon Ball fan ) Or if you want, you can give him another pose from this video

Interesting! Is it the pose when he's kinda clenching his fist looking very angry?

Still looking for more volunteers. Who knows, I might do more than one lol.

Done with the rough sketch and apparently, I didn't follow any of the pose you mentioned =S (I suddenly got a pose in mind that I wanted to do for him after getting a DBZ image in my head lol).

I think I'll just scan it and sketch over it digitally real quick tonight before resuming Pery's art trade

I totally don't mind the 'messy' look - in fact I'll admit, I prefer the look of a slightly messy sketch to something that's all cleaned up and 'perfect'. A quick sketch shows more of your personal style, after all, I think.

@Verene Ah cool. I am glad you think so

Well, I went ahead and finished Reigi's sketch on my pad (it is a 3.5 x 5.5 teeny weeny pad. Guess it's a good practice for me to focus more on composition than details which I tend to do).

Will just scan it tonight.

Also somehow doodled a pretty decent Ran side view/portrait sketch that I might render digitally after Perynne's. Was weird because I drew the face with a pen and got it right the first time.

Looks very nice, the only thing I have to say is that her lower lip seems to be out of place.

Eeeeeeeeee~, it's looking awesome! <3 I really, really like her expression, full of playful glee (and the daggers make her look very dangerous). Thank you so much! :3

I will try to finish up Ran today, haven't been able to work on it at all for the past couple of days thanks to family distracting me. x_x

Thanks you two <3.

I might actually try to fix it some more. Been staring at it for the whole day today and I need fresh eyes to look at it tomorrow. lol

No worries on Ran Perynne. Take as much time as you want
